Can you cover me if I am not taking my prescribed medication?

You may still be able to get cover if you are not taking prescribed medication, but your medical practitioner must be aware and confirm that you are fit to travel.

If you have stopped taking prescribed medication

This article explains what you need to do if you have stopped taking prescribed medication or plan to stop before travelling.

What should I do before I travel?

If you are not taking medication that has been prescribed to you:

  • speak to your medical practitioner and make sure they are aware
  • ask them to confirm that you are fit to travel
  • tell us if your medication or health has changed

If your medical practitioner is unaware that you are not taking your prescribed medication, we are unable to provide cover.

When could the policy not cover me?

The policy does not cover claims resulting from or relating to:

  • deliberately not taking recommended treatment or prescribed medication as directed by a medical practitioner
  • not following the advice of a medical practitioner
  • travelling against the advice of a medical practitioner
  • travelling when you are not fit to travel

If your medical practitioner has changed their advice about your medication, tell us about the change before you travel.

Still need help?

Speak to an adviser if you have stopped taking prescribed medication or your treatment has changed.

Eligibility, terms and exclusions apply. Please refer to your policy documents for full details.
