What questions will you ask me about my medical conditions?

The questions we ask depend on your medical condition and are designed to understand your individual circumstances accurately.

What this article helps you do

This article explains the type of information you may be asked for during medical screening and why accurate answers are important.

What might I be asked?

Depending on your medical condition, we may ask about:

  • prescribed medication you have taken
  • medical treatment or advice you have received in the last two years, including at a hospital, clinic, GP surgery or through a remote consultation
  • whether you have received or been offered palliative care
  • whether you have been advised of a terminal illness
  • other details relevant to your diagnosed medical condition

The exact questions can vary because medical screening is based on the condition or conditions you declare.

How should I answer the questions?

You must take reasonable care to answer all relevant medical questions fully, honestly and accurately.

If you do not understand a question or do not know the answer, tell us rather than guessing.

What if my health changes after medical screening?

Before you travel, you must tell us and consult your medical practitioner if you:

  • develop a new medical condition
  • experience a change to an existing medical condition
  • have a change in medication

Your medical information should remain accurate and up to date before you travel.

Speak to an adviser if you are unsure how to answer a medical screening question.
