Can I add excess waiver at a later date?

Yes. You can add Excess Waiver after you buy your policy, but it will not remove an excess for an incident that has already happened or that you already know is likely to result in a claim.

What this article helps you do

This article explains what happens if you add Excess Waiver, also called Zero Excess, after your policy has started.

What happens if I add Excess Waiver later?

  • You can add Excess Waiver at a later date.
  • An additional premium applies when you choose Zero Excess.
  • Adding Excess Waiver does not work retrospectively.
  • Any incident that has already happened will remain subject to the excess that applied at the time.
  • The same applies to an incident you already knew was likely to result in a claim when you added Excess Waiver.

What does Excess Waiver do?

Zero Excess removes the standard excesses that would otherwise apply under your policy, subject to the exceptions in your policy wording.

Zero Excess does not remove the increased medical excess that can apply to certain amateur sporting and adventure activities or winter sports activities.

If I already know I may need to make a claim

You can still add Excess Waiver to your policy, but it will not remove the excess for an incident you were already aware of when you added the upgrade.

The claim will be considered using the excess arrangements that applied to that incident.

Before you add Excess Waiver

Check your Policy Schedule after making the change to make sure your chosen excess level is shown correctly.

Speak to an adviser if you need help changing the excess on your policy.

Eligibility, terms and exclusions apply. Please refer to your policy documents for full details.
