Am I covered if I have a medical emergency on my cruise?

Yes, we’ll consider claims for emergency medical costs on a cruise where your policy includes Cruise Cover and any relevant pre-existing medical conditions have been declared and accepted.

What this article helps you do

This article explains what to do if you become ill or injured during your cruise and the medical conditions that may affect cover.

What you need for medical cover on a cruise

Your policy must include the appropriate Cruise Cover for the cruise trip.

Tell us about all relevant pre-existing medical conditions and answer medical questions fully and accurately.

Claims related to a pre-existing medical condition can be considered where you disclosed the condition and we accepted it in writing.

If you become ill or injured during your trip, emergency medical expenses may be covered subject to your policy terms, conditions and exclusions.

If you are admitted to hospital, or outpatient treatment is likely to cost more than £350, contact the emergency assistance team as soon as possible.

What if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

Pre-existing medical conditions you are covered for should be listed on your Policy Schedule.

We will not cover claims related to pre-existing medical conditions that you did not disclose to us and that we did not accept in writing.

You must also tell us if your health changes before you travel, including a new condition, a change to an existing condition or a change in medication.

What if my cruise is interrupted because I need hospital treatment?

Where Cruise Cover applies, there is also specific cruise interruption cover for additional travel costs to rejoin your cruise after a temporary illness requires hospital treatment on dry land.

You must obtain approval before arranging additional travel and provide the required medical evidence. Other conditions and exclusions apply.

If you have a medical emergency during your cruise

Contact the emergency assistance team as soon as possible if you need hospital treatment or may need to return home early.

Read your policy documents for the full medical and Cruise Cover terms.

Eligibility, terms and exclusions apply. Please refer to your policy documents for full details.

The active Silver/Gold and Black wordings support the Cruise Cover requirement, disclosure and written acceptance of pre-existing conditions, emergency medical cover, and cruise interruption conditions.
