Why do I need Repatriation cover?

Repatriation cover helps arrange and pay for your return home if you become seriously ill or injured while traveling.

What does repatriation cover include?

If you become ill or injured and need to return home early for medical reasons, Zurich Assist will consider whether repatriation is medically necessary based on your condition.

Depending on your situation, your policy may cover:

  • transportation you need to get home;
  • extra travel and accommodation for you;
  • travel and accommodation for a relative or friend who needs to stay with you or travel home with you if a doctor recommends it; and
  • an escort home if a child needs one.

Medical advisers will decide how you get home, based on what is needed for your health.

What about a GHIC or EHIC?

A GHIC or EHIC can help you get healthcare in countries where these cards are accepted.

You should use these arrangements if they apply. Repatriation is covered separately under the Medical Emergency part of your travel insurance.

What should I do if I may need repatriation?

If you go to the hospital or think you might need to go home early because you are sick or injured, contact Zurich Assist as soon as you can.

Please read your policy documents.
